Brompton Bicycle Touring in Taiwan, 2017. Post # 11

Mingjian Township to Silou (Xilou) Township on Route 152.

Upgrades to the Brompton

When I arrived in Silou, I stopped by a bike shop. I have been thinking about dumping the Brompton for a while, because no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t unleash the climbing potential (ROTFL) of this bicycle. I checked on Google Maps and there was a Specialized dealer in town.

To make a short story even shorter, I had a front derailleur and a road double installed on the Brompton instead of buying a new bike. I originally had a longer post going into a more details regarding the work done on the bike, but I decided to leave that out because I don’t think the 2 or 3 visitors to this blog will be interested. If you are reading this, are you interested? If I write it and no one reads it, did I really write it?

To sum up the bike upgrades section of this post: It works very well; it is not a difficult project; there are a few issues to be aware of; and the gearing is still not low enough, get a Schlumpf Mountain drive instead.

See you soon, take care.
